Two handsets with AE dials

These are 2 hand telephones in my collection. The shiny one appears to be a very early test set. The black one seems to contain all the element needed for a complete phone. The ring acts as the hookswitch when it is hung on a hook. I was never able to find out what the transmitter end is supposed to look like. I have never seen a picture of this phone in any old catalog. It is molded aluminum.

The nickel set is a WE 1001 (marked 1A) set with a dial added.
