HI,

I am working an automatic electric 50 that had a 42 cycle ringer in it.

I have a straight line ringer i want to replace it with but the old ringer called for a .08 mf condenser and the new sl ringer calls for a .7 mf condenser.

The condenser on the phone right now shows 4 mf/.08 mf rating.  Do I need to replace the condenser to get the phone to ring?

Any help anyone can offer would be appreciated

If you're using an AE straight-line ringer, I believe the standard value for the capacitor was 0.4 µF, according this table:

You are quoting the value for the 20 Hz frequency ringer.

Is yours another frequency ringer or a true straight-line ringer?

But that's a minor point.  To get to a workable value you can use a modern capacitor to make up the difference from 0.08 µF and install it in parallel with the existing one.

I would have kept the 42 Hz ringer.

Thanks

And I did keep the 42 cycle ringer, I can put it back whenever I feel I should.
