transmitter/reciever chrome banded caps stuck on handset!

I've been trying to take apart an AE40 to clean.  This particular model has chrome banded caps on the handset and I can't get them to budge!!  I don't want to get too rough and damage something.  They really are stuck...What are my options?  Thanks guys!

Sure Larry, I will send you my stuck chrome banded caps handset in exchange for a refurbished AE40 Deluxe model!!  Sound like a fair trade? Thank you Harry, I hope the hairdryer trick works but, I have my doubts...now I guess I just need to find a hairdryer.

I think they were pressed on originally although sometimes they are willing to slide off and sometimes they aren't. I wouldn't force them if they want to stay put.

WD40 + heat + strap wrench will do it.

I set the phone in a box and put it in the back seat of my car...4 hours later + the hot sun and they came off!!  Thanks everyone for your help.
