Wire gauge for signaling

Hi there,
Have Princess 712B with signaling function. Would like to use the push button on phone (which is also the 2 line switch) to activate a buzzer in our Smoking Room (garage) in order to signal wife that I need attended to. Like in airplanes - you push the overhead button and the stew skips over etc.
The rating of the WE 7A buzzer is 15 to 21V AC (BSP), and I'm using an Edwards transformer 18V AC 15VA. The distance to garage is about 50 feet.
My question is can I use standard 22AWG phone cable or should I use the heavier 18 to 20AWG cable like electricians usually use to install door bells / chimes or thermostats for furnaces? I don't want to overload the internal wiring and switch inside the phone.
I'm anxious to hear your opinion on this. These stairs are becoming burdensome.
Respectfully, John

22ga or 24 will work ok. basic 24 ga cat 5 will also work.

Thanks Phil, I was hoping for this answer because I've got plenty of 22AWG and is easier to work with than that 18-20AWG stuff.
