This was on a Northern Candlestick that I bought for parts. Came with this knurled nut that is a slightly different shape and thicker than my western electric thumb screws. Did Northern Electric make a knurled thumb screw?
Yes they did Dave, and the pictures you posted certainly look like the style that they produced.
