I picked up this unique 10 button 1977 GPO Trimphone at an antique and consignment store today.
I even tested it and it works. It has a different sound to it when it rings. They call it warbling.

Nice find.

There are a lot of topics on the forum about these. If you do a search for "GPO Trimphone" you will get 51 hits, some of which are about the Trimphone.

A Trimphone's ringer is quite a unique sound, I'm not sure if anyone else used the same method to make a phone ring, as I've only ever heard it on a Trimphone... :)

An example of a Trimphone ringing for those who haven't heard one:

From what I can find, it was a limited edition.

Possibly an STC Deltaphone limited edition, rather than a GPO Trimphone one.

Possibly an STC Deltaphone limited edition, rather than a GPO Trimphone one.

From the research I have been doing it is a 1977 special version of the Trimphone. The Deltaphone came out in 1980 and was a leather covered Trimphone.
Here are a couple of links I got some of the information from.

The GPO Deltaphone was leather-clad.

But STC always used Deltaphone as their in-house name for Trimphone when marketing to telephone administrations.

I think Swedish Ericsson also made a Silver Jubilee commemorative phone, a silver version of the Diavox (GPO Astrofon) but that wasn't issued to the public either.

These limited editions were probably restricted to manufacturer's samples to show manufacturing capabilities, or gifts for valued customers or senior managers.

It would be interesting if anybody turns up a schematic for the Tone Ringer 8A.  The GPO published a diagram for the earlier Tone Ringer 5A (Diagram N692) but I've never seen one for the 8A.
