This telephone I picked up at a "bazar" (a sort of thrift shop) in Ajijic, a city near Guadalajara, Mexico, while on vacation. It reads on the dial center "Ericsson", on the handset it reads "Ericsson LM", and on the bottom a bunch of serial numbers and "Propledad telefonos de Mexico sa" which translated into English means "Property of Mexican telephone company". In these photos you can compare this phone's stance with a Western Electric 5302. Also at the end a comparison with a modern cell phone. One would laugh at seeing a 1950s family discover one of these. "Marsha, what is it???" "I don't know, Robert. It could be a typewriter.""But notice the screen! It must be some sort of television-typewriter!". You tell me if this "Erickson" phone is rare, valuable, one-of-a-kind, or none of the above.

I'm sure these were very common in other countries, but they're certainly rare in the US and Canada.  I don't know anything of the value of such phones, but I can tell you it's a very pretty phone especially in that color.  Very nice!

Some time ago another phone from Mexico was shown here on the forum.  I don't recall the details, but I think it was also an Ericsson and similar to this one.

Are you able to take the cover off this one?  Nobody could figure out how to get the cover off that other Mexican phone.  The thread is here:  http://tinyurl.com/ycsavzq

No, I cannot take the cover off it. It is secured in place with a bunch of little slats that lock in place somehow.
I did only pay $6.75 for it and it has a nice bulbous design to it. I am happy with how much I paid for it.

This is a very common Ericsson telephone called the Dialog. I have a simple 1 page  folder of this phone on my site: http://tinyurl.com/lme-dialog    ( dead link 2/16/19 - no image attached )

If I recall correctly there is a screw on the back of the cradle (inside "the handle") which releases the cover.

Whoa!  Holy Easy Peasy Batman, is that all there is to it??  We were all convinced it was something far more involved and hidden.

I thought that was you, I guess not  :)

This is a nice phone for that price. My Hecho en Mexico phone looked like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, yours is nice, it would make the cut on my phone shelf, nice phone!
