I never knew that part was called a "lift".  Up until now, I had been calling them "part-that-holds-the-plungers-in-place-doo-dad".

Yes, but all the funky parts are doo-dads.  I can just see it on the parts list now:

1 each - doo-dad, black  $15.00
5 each - doo-dads, orange  $0.50 each
1 pair - doo-dads, ivory  $1.50 pair

It's pre-WWII.  I'm no expert, but I'd call that early.
