Stephen, that case is in nice condition.  It looks like it may need some adjusting of either the dial where it's mounted to the bracket or to the latch.  It looks like the dial bezel doesn't quite stick through the opening as much as it should.  I think it was BDM that discovered a bent chassis caused t his problem.  If you set the chassis on the table without the cover, does it appear bowed in the center.  If so, simply straightening it can make the dial bezel raise and come out of the housing hole better.  Nice phone find.  As you know, those soft plastic housings are hard to find.

The soft plastic 554 I got in green was made 8-13-58. Ours are siblings!
