The Shmoo (F-53635) was one of the field trial sets leading up to the final Trimline design. This one, dated 10-60,  sold for $1313.88 on July 20, 2014.

Question:

Were any Schmoo's actual working telephones? I seem to remember reading somewhere they were wooden mockups??

Both were made.

Typically wood or plaster models were made to test the outer shape before the field trial sets were built -- containing the working components.
