touch-tone for early phones

Hi all. I'm looking to build an external box, to go with a candlestick phone, that will contain:

--a network
--a ringer
--a touch-tone keypad pad.

The idea is to leave the candlestick original, or as close as possible, and have the modern works on the line cord, where a subset would be. Essentially, I want to build a subset with a TT pad on it.

Has anyone tried this? Or got a diagram? Can it be built entirely of parts from a 2500 set?

It might be easier if you just buy a "Rotatone" and install it.  No touchpad required.

True, but I was thinking of getting myself a nondial candlestick. Won't work for that.

There should be a relatively straight forward way to use a standard(and common as dirt) 2500 set as a subset. I've done it before with a 500 set, so the 2500, I would guess, is about the same. I'll see if I can figure something out later.

Let me have a look around... I've seen instructions for wiring a TT pad to old phones somewhere in my travels.  It would be perfect for this.

And yes, for a subset you'd need a coil or network of some description and a ringer assembly, but also a condenser for the ringing circuit.

Here's the site I was talking about:

http://atcaonline.com/ttpad.html

It will tell you how to wire a separate TT pad to various phone models.  I like Ben's idea best, though--You've got everything you need all in one unit that way.

Can you use one of the transistorized mini networks and a touch tone pad somehow? something like this..

and then just add a self contained tt keypad?

I'm currently installing the guts from a 2500, into my 317-E Oak wall phone. I'm not done yet,  but all I'm doing so far is tracing wires and swappimng them wire for wire into the old phone. I've had to disconnect the old wires as I go to be able to get the ringer to work etc. What I'm having trouble with is getting the hook mechanism to work the 2500 when I lift the receiver on ther oak phone. It looks like I'm going to have to take the hook assembly from the 2500 and install it in place of the oak phone hook assembly.

That's clever D/P, and seems like a real easy and cheap way to get the needed touch tone capability.
