Hello everyone,

I have a no dial 500 with a very streched out white cord painted black(not by me). I have read over the thread about wrapping it around a dowel and baking it. My question is would the paint on the cord burn off or cook off? I dont want to ruin it. I just want to restore it. i seem to get the painted WE products for some reason without even trying.

You could wrap it around a dowel and just place it on your dashboard in the sun. Ideally summer would be the best time to do this instead of fall, but you might get enough heat this time of year if you don't live too far north.

Funny that they would paint a white cord black. You'd think that black cords would be the most plentiful.

I would put it in the scrap/spares box and get a brand new one from PhoneCo. they do them in all lengths spaded and modular.

I took a look at the phoneco site and they didn't have any spring cords, or I dont know how to look for them  ::)

Anyway, I even looked on e-bay and no go there unless i buy an F1 handset.  So I wonder if I clean it really carfully and bake it if it will repair. I dont know what process or type of paint WE used so its anybodys guess what will happen.

It's not easy to navigate the site rtp:

Spaded:

Modular:

They are really excellent quality, I replaced a scabby flat white on my black 554 with a 12ft spaded cord, and put a nicer 6ft on my black 500 modular.

I have also had to replace the mod jack sockets on both handsets and bases with replacements from Phoneco as the originals had went brittle and broke on removal, not surprising when you thing how old they are and how thin the grooved plastics were on these.
