Did AE40's come in Colors?

I really like AE40's and I know they came with chrome accents and such, but did they originally come in colors other than black?  I see repros and refinished AE40s in colors, but I'm wondering about the originals.

Did they ever!  The 40 was available in the same colors as it's predecessor, the 34:

[Dan/Panther]

Were these painted or solid colors.

I don't know anything about the composition, but they're solid color, not painted.
