One of those phones I knew was available in red, but I never thought I would own one very soon! A Siemens Brothers Centenery Neophone, aka Horseshoe.
Made in Britain, exported to South Afrika, and now in the Netherlands thanks to my friend Mark who got it for me.
Not used by GPO and produced for the private marked and export, this phone was made in various colour combinations. I was nicknamed horseshoe because of the horseshoe shaped depression around the dial.
That horseshoe shaped depression was there to accomodate a sticker with lettering for the digits, if needed. But that was only ever actually used as such in Spain, if I understood correctly.
Introduced in 1958.
Very very happy with it.

Very, very nice. Was the grey handset cord standard no matter what the color of the set was?

Not used by the GPO but it was used by Hull Corporation, the last of the independent telephone companies in the UK.

Nice phone Arwin.

Thanks guys, it took me a while to find out. Well, actually I did not find out. I cannot find a picture with the same cord. And the person I got it from wasn't very clear on this point. So I guess I do not know if the cord is original.

britishtelephones.com only shows cloth cords.

And as this one seems an earlier one, as it is marked Siemens Ediswan, I guess it once had a cloth cord. I just do not know what colour.

The cord that is on it now does not look bad, so I'll leave it for now.
