Then the first one on this thread - assuming it also only has a generator on the inside, how would the dial work?

I think I got off topic again. The first one in the thread must have had a dial and no generator. Or a generator and no dial. But I don't see where they may have plugged the hole where the crank would have been.

As Robby said, the cradle in the original post is from a phone with a generator and no dial.

The dial in the original post is North Electric. The one on the chrome phone in the phonecoinc catalog is from an AE 80 or 90 and has been modified to look like a real 3-inch dial. (Check the finger stop.) These are also on the repro candlesticks phoneco sells.

You're right - it's obvious that it doesn't have a handle, or hole, so no generator.  Must have a network inside there.
