M3-3+G1AR-3=354C-3G?
Thank you!
That equation appears to reduce to: M3 + 3G + G1AR − 354C − 6 = 0 !

Thank you!
That equation appears to reduce to: M3 + 3G + G1AR − 354C − 6 = 0 !

And since a M3 Tel Set Mounting and a G1AR handset make a complete 354, these cancel out, leaving
3G - 6 =0
      3G=6
        G=2

A 1956 BSP from AT&T includes 202s with F4 handsets and D5AA (5-conductor) mounting cords.

1.06 The 202-, 203-, and 215-type hand telephone sets should
be used with 685A and 686A subsets only when authorized. When
authorization has been given,  the hand telephone sets should be
equipped with F4 handsets in all cases and wired as indicated in
Tables A and B.

Table A lists Figure Numbers 2 and 9 for 202A and C.

Figure 2 -- 202A and C Hand Telephone Set shows 4-conductor mounting cord
Figure 9 -- 202A or C Hand Telephone Set Modified
                 for Use with Network Subsets
shows 5-conductor mounting cord and F4 handset

(By "network subsets" they mean 685A or 686A.)

Table B shows that a 202 or 215 could be used with any of the following subsets:

Sidetone: [4-conductor cord with black lead taped back in the subset]
534A, BA, or C
584A, BA, or C

Antisidetone: [4-conductor cord]
434A, AT, BA, R
495BP
634A, AR, AT, BA
634BK, C
634CF, CR, FR
684A, BA, C

Network: [5 conductor cord]
685A, 686A

However, the use of 685A subsets with 202s in Southern Bell territory was not alllowed, according to an April, 1957 addendum:

1.002 This addendum is reissued to cancel
certain parts of the AT&T Co Section
which do not apply in this company.

1.06  The 202-, 203- and 215-type Hand
Telephone sets should not be used
with 685-A and 686-A subsets.

ADDENDUM C63.333, Issue B, April 1957, SBT&T Standard
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This confirms an earlier Southern Bell Addendum from 1956:

1. GENERAL

1.01  This addendum cancels the AT&T Co Addendum
C63.333, Issue 1 which provides information
for connecting the 202-203 and 215 type hand telephone
sets to the 685A and 686A network type subsets. The
use of these subsets as described above has not been
standardized for use in this Company.
