Here's an unusual porcelain Bell System sign.  Size is 11"x7".  Heavy and old, and one I have certainly never seen before.  Maybe it was installed on the door to some rarely-used cable vault(?).  My wife said I should hang it on the bathroom door!

My guess would be for "Natural Gas" facilities, Neat sign.

I don't seem to be able to recall any Bell System natural gas facilities, but I can't be expected to know everything.  I suspect that the door was marked this way to remind workers entering an unmanned CDO building, in an area of the country where there was a chance of natural gas infiltration, to use their gasimeter before entering.

I am thinking of "Natural Gas" facilities that had Bell Phones installed as their dial tone provider.

Well, it admonishes those entering to read the practices for entering, not installing. If the facility required explosion-proof sets, for instance, I doubt if that sign would be installed at a subscriber's premises. I guess we'll never know...
