Poplar1... I just remember having an extra capacitor that someone on here had me buy a year ago to get an old oak box to ring.  I tried the extra on my 534 with the wiring you suggested and it works fine. No more popping. 😊 now I have to get more so I can do the same to the rest of the 534's I have. Thanks for the tip.

Even my 202 wired to a 584A pops. The 634's & 684's I have are perfect. I don't know how I ended up with so many 534's. They work fine except that popping is annoying.
The 634 and 684 have either one 4-wire condenser or a pair of condensers, one for speech, one for ringing.  The 534 has one 2-wire condenser, and those often eventually "leak", which causes that loud snap, or so I have been told.

You can though convert your 534s to 634s.  Just buy a 4 wire condenser, and make it electrically the same as your 634.  Otherwise, you will just have to live with it.

Good to know that adding the extra capacitor worked

The most common 4-wire 195A condenser (capacitor)is from a 302. The talk capacitor is 2.0 uF and the ring capacitor is 0.5 uF. 0.5 is fine for the high impedance B1A ringer, but the 8A ringer in a 534A is low impedance. The 8A requires a 1.0 uF, as does the B3A ringer from a 306 set, when used without a tube

Glad you fixed it without having to convert your subsets.
