We lost Johnny Cash five years ago today.  While I was never much of a country music fan, I can still appreciate what he accomplished musically.
Here's his last video, generally regarded as his epitaph: Hurt

While I'm not a fan of modern country music, I am a huge fan of pre-1980s country & western music, and Johnny Cash ranks right at the top of my favorites.  Hurt's a great song, and an amazing video.  I'm not sure who the director was, but it's one fine piece of cinematography.

I heard that for the first time yesterday, and knew I'd heard a different version of that song (by someone else) long ago, but couldn't place who did it.  That's what let me to search the net, which resulted in me finding that video on YouTube.  The original was by the band, Nine Inch Nails.  The director was Mark Romanek, and it was named best video of the year by the Grammy Awards and the CMA.  Cash really took the song to a new level.

I once had a cheap label 45 rpm record of "On top of spaghetti", and, the other side was  a fairly well done version of "Ring of fire" by the same guy.

One of my earliest recollections of music, was listening to Johnny Cash sing  "Folsom Prison Blues" the part of the song that stuck in my mind will always be, I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him Die.

Still missing Johnny Cash but just discovered Guy Clark who has become my favorite of all time.  I'm not big on country music but man can Guy Clark write a great song.  Great voice too.  A true artist.

For those of you who haven't seen her, Johnny left another great legacy, his daughter Roseanne Cash (Land of Dreams - full length):

I would have to agree.  My favorite of all her work would have to be this one!

There's no mistaking her father's influence in that one! :)
