Title: Matching numbers 1959 NE beige 500 for $8.00 on eBay
Post by: ..... on March 14, 2016, 09:52:17 PM
I got this in the mail today. It is a numbers matching 1959 NE beige 500 for $8.00 USD Best Offer on eBay March 11th.
The catch was shipping, it was $18.00 USD. The only things that are not original are the the cords.
The first 5 pictures are from the eBay auction and the rest where taken tonight. The first thing I did was remove the dial to expose the original dial disk. Then I took it apart to check out the dates. I also plugged it in and got dial tone, dialed it out. It just doesn't ring in.  Pictures continued in next post.

Doug,

That was a nice catch.  There couldn't be very many soft plastic light beige NE 500s in the world.  It looks like the plastic might be a bit darkened, but that can be remedied with some soaking in bleach and water in the warm sunlight.  You might need to move the black wire from the ringer to allow the phone to ring.  Finding replacement beige cords shouldn't be difficult.  It seems that Canada Post does a good job taking some of the fun out of buying things online.

Thanks for posting all the date pictures. NE did things differently and little more legibly, especially the housing. Just tonight I've been trying to decipher a WE housing date stamp and it's just not legible, and it's yellow on ivory. Those NE stamps are crystal clear. And yes, as Larry said, you don't see many NE soft plastic phones. Even with the high shipping it was a bargain.

Thanks guys,

It wasn't all Canada Post, The seller over charged on the shipping. $18.00 USD = $23.92 CDN at time of sale. Actual cost was $11.31 CDN or $8.51 USD in postage. So he got extra $9.49 USD.

I plan on giving it a good cleaning when I'm off work tomorrow.
