I was spying on this auction when it started a few days back.

and I noticed something funny about the "500" looking phone from the angle of the first picture.

So I ask the guy to take a picture of the rear of the phones.

He uploads them, and BAM!

I knew I had no chance of getting it cheap.

I bet it was one of you guys....

Was that a good price for the phones from a resale standpoint?

That's about average when you factor in the $30 shipping cost.  5302s go for about $25 and a 554 in black sells for about $5.

Yes that was a nice auction for the price.  Either phone could have gone for more by itself, especially the 556.

The 556, when complete, had an electron tube in it for ringing on a party line.

The 5302 looks good too, prices vary, I think I have paid typically in the 30s for mine.

I wasn't about to get in a bidding war and lose all my lunch money  ::)

Wow! I didn't know that about the 556.

Oh well!

Better luck next time!

I paid less than $20 for each of my 5302s and I just passed on one for $20 a couple weeks ago. If you keep a sharp eye out you can do pretty good.   In my experience, party line variants don't carry that much of a premium over standard models, except some Princess phones.
