Nice to see it 'taint real.  It looks good in that light.

At least no historically significant phone was sacrificed in the creation of this hideous phone.

I think that is factory finish. I have seen other factory finishes on this model.

As long as it isn't a real AE40, it could be any color they want as long as it doesn't smell bad.

Have seen those reproduction "AE40's" in more normal colors including black. They are actually quite a realistic looking reproduction if in a normal color. Put a real number card on it and a better looking coiled handset cord and all that would be left that didn't look correct would be the touch button "dial".
At least from the angle shown.

As much as we laugh at the Crosley repros, they at least give us the opportunity to tell people that the designs of the 500, 554, Princess, 302, 354, etc are still being produced today. Still, Crosley does overdo it with stupid Psychedelic color schemes like this.

Got to give who ever built this homebrew credit for something but seems it would have been easier to find a replacement 500 housing than do this. Seller says it's rare but it's actually unique, a one-off.

Just list in a 30 day auction with a BIN but I have a feeling it won't go in the first few days.

My only question is the purpose of the red LED inside the box, left side.

I got it.  But I am of a certain age and until recently was a resident of the very high state of Colorado.  ;)

That must be a Type 420.

I wonder how many got the joke.
420?  Nah, would have to be some "higher" number.

I don't see any sign the dial is attached to the box but if it is I'd like to see the human factors studies results on dialing errors using it.
