I have an extensive collection of Telecom Tools including those made by Western and Northern Electric, Automatic Electric, and by Teletype Corp., as well as other companies. This is a listing of tools I have been maintaining of the tools in my collection. If you have an unknown spring bender, etc. you would be able to look up its number in this listing and see what it was designed for.

What would have made it even more useful is if I had included photos of all tools - I have been of more recent acquisitions, but didn't for most. However, it still can be a very useful document for identifying unknown tools!

You will always get the latest version off my web site at:

Hi Chuck:

Every so often, I take a step back from collecting phones, and concentrate on collecting telecom tools. All are on display in the museum. Some I use every day, and some I use only when working on the Strowger display, but they all get used from time to time. It is amazing how many custom tools were made! I have a few that would easily be over 100 years old. All part of the hobby!

The most amazing part is that you have figured out what almost all of them are for!

The list is impressive!

Dave:

I hope you eventually augment the list with a picture of every tool

Hi Chuck:
I am thinking of doing that. It may be a winter project. The only worry I have about doing that, is that it will make the PDF file huge, but it would certainly make it more useful for others. At first, I just did up the list more for myself, so it would keep track of what I have, but I have had it downloadable from my site for the past several years and it has been downloaded by several thousand users. I have had a lot of emails about different tools people have, and thanking me for letting them know what they were for...

However, I do think I will eventually add the photos - I can see the benefit of that...
