I won a Stromberg Carlson 1211 on eBay.  It wasn't well identified, so I was the only bidder.  It had the handset cord replaced at some point.  Other than that the only part that needed to be replaced was the spitcup ring.  But this post is about the ringer.  There is a bit of rust inside the phone, most of which I can remove easily enough.  The ringer however is rusty on the magnet and clapper pivot and as I understand it, if I take it apart to clean it won't work as well when I put it back together.  Any tips?  Should I just risk the disassembly?

Never mind, I figured it out.  I was able to remove just the clapper pivot assembly and that allowed enough access to wire brush off the worst of the rust.
