Im sure most when approachin a phone( for sale) the first thing is to spin the dial especially on the WE. years ago i sold phones for a living at an antque market in ATL and taught that spin the dial to customers. Some may not want to do this as it doesnt help the mechanism but does create the clicking sound of music we all seem to like. I think this arm, under normal conditions raises the paul ( cant find the correct spellin) while dialing clockwise:
ANYWAY it makes a nice clicking on AE dials.. just tuck that are under the base for the fingerwheel as shown.
I always had repeat customers come back wanting that  clackie dial..

Zingaro, since you asked, it's spelled pawl. They do sound alike.

Now for Paul... that would be Fassbender.  :D  Sorry, I just had to say that.

Now that you mention it, I believe my arm does raise while dialing clockwise.   ::)
