This "ringer box" is being sold with a 202.  What sort of box is this?  Does it function as a subset?  Is it only a noisemaker for a "hotwired" 202?  Anyone seen this?   Thanks in advance for any info.

E1 type ringer, used with early Princess phones (701B) that didn't have internal ringers. Also often used for 2nd line ringer for 2-line phones. Originally beige, gray or ivory, never black. These are not subsets because they don't contain a speech network--just the ringer and the capacitor.

Check with the seller to see if there is a mini-network implanted in the base of the D-mounting.  There is just enough room.  There are several sellers who routinely do it for sales to the general public.  I'm sure some of us have done it from time to time.

The one problem is that there's no room for a ringer.  This is an excellent solution for someone who just wants a working D-type set and wants it to ring -- and doesn't care about it being "original."

Painting the E1 housing black is a nice touch to make it look more like they belong together.

Of course, many of us would prefer the sound of a subset with a dual gong ringer.   ;)

I knew it was here somewhere.  Check out this topic for implanting a mini network in a D-mounting:
