Wow, interesting! 1997 leading edge RS technology. I never saw that item before. Where did you find those photos?

I found the tech specs. According to RS Support, it plays the following 16 melodies (most likely in cheap MIDI quality):

Ode to Joy        Happy Life            Island of Capri    Home Sweet Home
Fur Elise         Ding-Dong Song        Red Strawberry     New World
Congratulations   Turkey in the Straw   Solvejg's Lies     Swan Lake
Long, Long Ago    Surprise Symphony     Cuckoo Waltz       Kojo No-TSUKI

----------------------------------

Electronic Music-On-Hold Switch
(430-0441)                 Features                   Faxback Doc. # 45622

The RadioShack Electronic Music-On-Hold Switch plays 16 pleasant melodies,
listed on Faxback Doc. # 45624, for a caller on hold.  Installation is easy
and mounting is a snap with the supplied double sided tape.  The indicator
light reminds you a call is on hold.

But you would need one for each phone on the 616. Not compatible with PBX systems.

I emailed the local FM station (oldies format) asking if it was okay to use their broadcast as my music on hold on my non-business home telephone system. Hope to hear from them tomorrow.

I heard back from the manager of the company that owns several radio stations in my area. He told me to fell free to use their broadcast for my music on hold as their license allows them to have their broadcast used for that function.

I briefly used the radio for my MOH.

My caller was most displeased to have to listen to the ad break, which is a drawback to commercial stations.

I wonder what the legal and licensing issues would be with using NPR for hold music.

Does the MOH feature only work if you put an outside call on hold?  I thought I'd try my iPhone while I put an internal call on hold and I don't hear a thing.
