Obscure link.
not sure what is meant, "Obscure link" Link worked for me...Doug
Maybe because it runs an advert rather than go directly to the news item.
I have viewed from the link above, and via that on the other site, unfortunately both played adverts beforehand.
Nice to 'meet' you Matt!
:)
Adblockplus cared for the advert for me, but it would be OK if it had appeared.
Great news story, thanks for posting!
There is a slow motion video of the cord braiding machine on oldphonework's homepage, but very interesting to see the environment also!
link went to sites homepage.

Obscure on my iPhone and now I realize that the clip did not automatically start. All I saw what was listed below the black box and clicking on any of the links below the black box played the clicked link clip.
None of the links referenced OldPhoneWorks. The clip you were linking to did not play on my iPhone until I tapped the black box, and there was no indication anywhere on the page that I was to tap the black box to see the video (no white ">" in the center of the black box). No Adverts, no play arrow, no nothing.
Sitting in my car, the referenced link was unclear (obscure).
Clip loads by itself on my computer. Nice piece on OPW.

OPW bought the Cord making machine from Odis LeVier, a gentleman who was a friend to the collector.
As memory serves ::) Odis had the real deal that made cloth cords for WE. It was a trip to see it working....Doug
No mention of Oldphoneguy Don Woodbury. I hope all is well...Doug
Oldphjoneworks bought the Chicago Old Telephone where I worked for about 25 years

Odis had a shoelace machine that had been modified by a phone company to make cords.
He later bought a machine from Runzel and was able to make any Runzel cord.
He used to give out copies of the Runzel catalog to simplify ordering.

They dialed the Strowger wrong.
You dial it with your right hand.
You put your thumb on the thumb-hold and pull the dial down with your index finger.

Thanks for sharing.
After doing business with them for several years, nice to see the inside of the business!
thanks for sharing the link. Their workshop looks like it is from the future compared to my basement workroom.
Glad somebody is boosting them! Our hobby needs all the exposure it can get!

Odis & Aaron (young man that Odis had working for him) actually brought a cord-braiding machine to one of the Cincinnati TCI shows about 2008 or so; was AMAZING to see it work! And the sound that it makes when it is "chugging along" reminds me a LOT of a little steam locomotive; very cool indeed and great to know that OldPhoneWorks is still "chugging" along with those same machines cause they were 100 yrs old when Odis bought them!

Here are a few photos from the machine at the 2006 Cinci show. It was quite memorable.
