Title: Auction (125 Cancelled: Listing terminated) - 1947-53 BSP Mobile Mini Binder
Post by: TelePlay on July 20, 2014, 07:58:56 PM
NOTE:   The original auction expired on July 27th at $67.21, the reserve was not met. The seller has relisted the item starting at $10 in a 7 day auction. As such, the contest will remain open with all guesses in place, unless anyone wants to change their guess (one change is allowed per contest so anyone on the list below can change their guess, should they want to. To do so, use the "Reply" button rather than edit the original guess post - so I don't miss any changes. Thanks!

----------------------------------------------------------

Just re-listed at $10.00 with a reserve in a 7 day auction. It's not your "standard phone" contest, it's different and a first for the Auction Contests, but it was discussed in a prior topic (http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=9433.0)on the forum and was noted in that topic that such items have sold for "good money" on eBay in the past. So once again, the question is, who best knows the selling price of this item, or in other words, game on.

This is a "reserve" eBay auction and as with past "reserve" auction contests, the right is hereby reserved to cancel this contest completely with no winner if the auction bids DO NOT exceed the seller's "reserve," whatever that might be, when the eBay auction ends.

The seller listed it as an "1947-53 Early MOBILE PHONE / Radio Bell System Practices Mini Binder ULTRA RARE!" with the item condition as "Used" and "In good condition. Some color aging but no rips or tears. See pictures before bidding." with the auction listing description as:  "Ultra rare Mini Mobile Telephone / Radio Bell System Practices  7 1/2 X4" -- This was from the estate of a Bell System retiree and it was part of his personal collection, he worked in the mobile radio Department.. It may even be one of a kind as I haven't seen one like this. This mini BSP is one of the coolest I've seen. Awesome pictures and instructions. This is definitely an extra ordinary BSP and would make a great item to add to your collection especially if you are interested in Mobile Telephone History. It is a mini handheld BSP binder: Mobile Radio 1947-1953. Included in this BSP is many pages about Western Electric, MOTOROLA and GE. Covering highway and urban systems along with lists of equipment and how to install it. Other references are Gibson, RCA and more. They also show you how to install the first ever Bell System mobile telephone control head, the Western Electric Type 41A along with the 42A 46A, 238B 238C, 239A 239B. Some of the Sections are provisional, according to the BSP general plan: This means it contains information for which full patent clearance or other developmental consideration may be pending. Also, the BSP itself may still be in the developmental testing phase and portions may be incomplete.

Sections that are included in this "Mini" binder:

There are a few more pictures of this BSP binder on the eBay auction page.

NOTE: This contest will use a 5% gap rule between guesses to prevent crowding. As such, guess gaps of 10+% can be split. I'll help with these as the auction goes forward and guesses are entered. It's another chance to either move up a rung or to get onto the CRPF -> Contest Standings <- (http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=4198.0) list.

. . . for as twocvbloke said,    - - - >  "You gotta be in it to win it ! ! !". . .   ;D "

New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

Here's the 5% no crowding gap spreadsheet for this contest, after 14 guesses.

Tallguy58 reserved his right to one change and is now in as the 13th entry.

Lot of room for more guesses; only one split the difference and no lock outs to date.

Just checked this auction for the morning update and found that "This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing" on July 27th at about 21:22:04 PDT.

As such, this contest is hereby cancelled with no winner.

Thanks to everyone for playing.

Final sale price was $249. I didn't know that eBay automatically relisted it. I had several messages about people missing the auction and wanting it. I just listed it at $249 and it sold in less that two minutes.
I was hoping for $200 so I couldn't be happier.
Thanks!
Mo

I had a hunch that the reserve was $200. As for the contest, Mr. Bones guessed $250 but since it was changed to a BIN at $249, I can't give him the win. I just saw the relist, did not see the BIN, so that's why I continued the contest.

Glad you got what you felt was good money for it.
