Can someone please tell me why some AE (3") dials have so much noise on recoil? i have a few that look the same in back but are smooth with almost NO noise.
its like a raspy noise i cant figure out how to make them quiet or where its comming from.
Thanks!

I would say that is a normal occurrence with AE dials. . I believe that noise comes from the governor or the worm screw. Try cleaning them with some solvent, then lightly oiling/greasing the worm gear. Maybe someone else on the lists has some better advice.

One other thing that bothers me about A/E dials. After dialing a number, almost all of my A/E dials will have a noticeable click, when I release the wheel.

Yes, that 'snap' from the ratchet is unappealing. I guess I'm just a WE guy.

i might try some white grease and see if it helps?
i kinda like the snap as you dial bet the other noise is annoying and some that look identical are QUIET on recoil  must be a reason ?

The GTE Practice that deals with Automatic Electric dials has specific lubrication specifications for them. That should reduce noise. It's probably in the TCI library.
