I found this online for $34. Do you know what is is? Is it worth the $34 the seller wants for it?

Yes a Magneto in it but crank handle missing. As rdelius says it is a "Railroad Phone". These seem plentiful on ebaY and never go for much. Not easily converted for real phone use either I would say.

As previously stated, it's an Automatic Electric type-60 railroad telephone.

Take a look at the grey box and most likely it will have Automatic Electric Wayside Filter printed upon it.

The lower box would have held the batteries and the metal strap shown hanging loose in the photo would have secured them.

For whatever reason someone decided to rob all of the screws from the terminal strips.

A lot of the wayside filters boxes were retrofitted into other brands of telephones so they could be used on lines that also had carrier systems superimposed on them.
