Title: GPO 5-way cable & MK Wallplate for GPO type cables...
Post by: twocvbloke on July 12, 2013, 02:46:48 PM
These arrived today, got them the other night on ebay, been after the wall plate for a while, they're a neater solution to the standard BT52A terminal blocks, and I got the 5-way cable just cos it was there... :D

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390619273626 - 5-way cable

Not entirely sure what the 5-way cable was meant for, all I can deduce is it was used in conjunction with ancillary equipment inside the phone (additional switchooks, neon lamps, buzzers, etc.), it's also quite thick too, compared to a 4-way cable, the individual wires are twice as thick as standard, so must have been for something a bit more specialised and robust than the average customer phone... :D

And a good tip, be careful with the use of oil when using a bed as a workbench (I oiled the screw in the wallplate cos it was stuck), otherwise you end up with spots of the stuff dotted about the place... :D

I once worked for a place that was in a little house that had been rezoned commercial. The boss, having separated from his wife,  was living in one of the bedrooms. When he got stuck working on a phone he couldn't figure out, he would take it to bed with him. While I was working there, he and his wife reconciled: She said he could move back in under one condition:  "No more phones in the bed!"

Phenolic plastics, basically white bakelite, as most of our electrical stuff (mains sockets, light switches, some plugs, etc.) is cos bakelite has very good insulating properties... :)
