Anyone know when this was made? .. and any other info on it whatsoever?

Does "X53" mean made in 1953??

Also, If anyone could give me an approximate value this would be much appreciated

Check out http://www.telephonesuk.co.uk/ident_codes.htm.  It looks like yours was made in 1953.  From what I have observed, GPO 300 series phones tend to go for alot (somewhere around $90+), especially if they are in good condition, though I bought one on ebay for around $10 or $20 (and it was smashed in shipment because of bad packing).
