Sorry about the bonehead question, but here goes.  I have a couple of handsets that look similar, both marked "F1"   One style has wires that go up the handle to the earpiece.  The other doesn't.  My question:  in the style that does not seem to have wires up the handle, how does the receiver get signal?  Are they compatible with all old phones?   Thanks.

The one with no wires showing has the wires imbedded in the bakelight and is the older of the two. Both will work well.

The one without wires is also older than the one with wires. Paul-F has a lovely chart with a timeline. There are also F1 handsets without a groove running across the handle that you should keep an eye out for.
