Unusual D1 Marking - "Bell System" stamped on cradle

I have never seen this before, has anyone else? A D1 that is marked "BELL SYSTEM" on the back
of the cradle above and to the right of the D1 marking. Here is a photo of the phone.

I'm not the most learned of the group but, I've never seen that marking on a D1 before. Maybe someone will have a better idea, interesting!

Curious that the text is not centered. What are the date markings inside the housing? Anything else unusual about it?

Maybe it was a prop on loan from Bell System. They stamped it to show ownership?

That's what I thought, it may have been a prop phone, or was in some sort of display, or something like that.

Paul it is dated I-32 inside the base. It looks like an ordinary non dial
D1 to me. Here are a couple more photos.
