This weekend I picked up a 5302 with a G1 handset on it. I could not get the phone to work. I put an F1 on it and it worked fine. I put the G1 with the same cord on a 500 set and it worked fine! The G1 was wired black to black on the dial, red on red on the coil and both white wires on the white on the dial. Any suggestions?....Doug

  Doug,

Having both white leads on the same post shorts out the receiver in the handset. Moving one of the white leads to the same post as the red lead should cure your problem.
(Using a cell phone ..so can't send schematic ...sorry)

Andy's called that right. The red conductor and one white should be wired together on the coil.

thanks guys....just that simple...plus the receiver cap was bad in the handset, so I kept doubting myself. I do appreciate the help. See....you can teach an old doug new tricks!!....

Now that you got it working, how is that sidetone? ;D

Maybe there isn't a sidetone issue if the G handset contains F elements.  But I don't know if such an arrangement would "work fine" with a 500 chassis.
