Hello all,

I have never seen the brass insert inside the lower bell before, is there anyone who can tell me what it is?
How to remove it? Does it restrict the operation of the ringer?
This phone rings sometimes, and then at other time it wont ring, sometimes I can see the arm trying to move but wont make it to the bells.
Any Ideas?

That insert is a resonator. It makes the harmonics of the gong more pleasing and 'crisper'. It should not interfere with the operation. If the clapper isn't hitting the gongs, then you can try adjusting the distance with the center screw. Or you could adjust the bias spring.

How is adjustment of the bias spring accomplished?
I am assuming it is the spring connected to the clapper?
thanks

Yes, you can move the spring to one of three particular notches. Most of the time the middle works well. I usually trial and error to see which setting works best. Occasionally, on the lowest setting, dialing may result in dinging. If that happens, you will have to go up a notch.

remember, you can adjust the ringer by rotating the gongs too... my kitchen phone is adjusted so its as loud as it can be... and it has a B1AL bell!
