I purchased this on eBay over five years ago and misplaced it. I found it today looking for something else. Old age is wonderful!! I was cleaning this up in the sun on my back porch. I thought it was black, but it is more like a mottled green/gray. When the sun hits it you see it. The handset as well. Bakelite fingerwheel is black. Cords are near perfect and it works! Rings and dials out with ease.

Property of United Nations on the bottom. WOW!! I got this and forgot about it.

It is a variant of the English GPO 300. And a very nice one, at that.

It has the housing of the Ericsson DBH 1001, with an English GPO handset. Normally there is a little drawer at the front. But as the little lip is missing I think it is a blank infill.

Nice detail that it apparantly was owned by the United Nations. What a lovely phone, Doug!

Oh, is that a US dial?

And the dial card, is that the one that came with it? Or did you place it there, Doug?

Yes, the later Austalian versions have these typical rounded handset. And they do not have the drawer at the front.

Could be an Indian copy:

http://www.britishtelephones.com/iti.htm

The dial certainly looks like an ITI dial to me, the shell could also be an indian copy, but without seeing any manufacturing marks I couldn't say for sure... ???

The base looks right though, but again, no inside view so not certain on that one... ???

Some more info on spotting the indian versions:

cannot see the logo on the handset well enough. The Indian version would have ITI on the handset in a heart shaped logo.Looks too good to be the indian version-I have 3 in my collection.Look for markings on the diagram if it is there.

Matilo Telephones

I do not think it is an Indian copy. It would strike me as a strange choice for the UN to buy cheap low quality copies of a very good UK original, especially for that era.

Also the bottom shows no screws or rivets. Which means the components are inside the shell and not mounted on the baseplate, as with the Indian version.

And the sound holes are not meshed over, like with the Indian version.
