Title: Wanted Chrome Transmitter Screws
Post by: Doug Rose on January 11, 2020, 01:24:38 PM
I just used the last of my chrome transmitter screws. I had so many, I can't remember where I bought them of how much I paid. Anyone selling them?...>Doug

I used to get them from House of Telephones. This was years ago. I would by them from Odis at the Kansas show.

If you know the size and thread count, you might be able to find  them by the box at a specialty fastener supplier.
Please post your source if you find any.
Thanks,
Jim

Pretty sure that they are #2-56 machine screws. I still have 100 or so left from Odis' stockpile, but they aren't round-headed (they are pan-head) so I don't like them as much as older "OEM" transmitter screws. As I recall, they are the same size as the machine screws that are used for instruction card frames on pay telephones.

I got a few hundred from Odis when he was retiring that had to be 10 years ago. I really miss him. OPW wants 4 for $2.95. I think Odis used to sell 100 fro $8? I had so many and then I went to fix up a stick yesterday and I had five left.  >:(  ...Doug

I searched for #2-56 machine screws round head slotted. there were a lot more results than anticipated.

There are some cheap 1/4" SS at walmart.
$13.81/100
This site has them in brass.
https://www.boltdepot.com/Machine_screws_Slotted_round_head_Brass_2-56.aspx
$9.66/100
You could plate the brass ones with a plating kit. Then you would have a plating kit to experiment with as well.

I have bought transmitter screws from Mark in the past.. They are stainless, round head slotted, and look good on a phone.

Hope this helps...

Good tip.
100 plated screws for less than $20.00 delivered is a nice price.

If you get the brass screws, you can blacken them chemically with a product model railroaders use called "Blacken it"; works great!
