Find of the Month - June 2018
« on: June 02, 2018, 10:35:14 AM »
Post your "Find of the Month" here.

A "Find of the Month" is a telephone or a related item that you acquired during the month that you are particularly excited about either because of its rarity, the difficulty you had in trying to find it for your collection or the exceptional "deal" that you got on it.

The "Find of the Month" contest is focused on the collection of telephones rather than on their sale for a profit. To be eligible for the "Find of the Month" contest:

- The finder must have personally acquired and actually own the item.
- The item can be acquired for free but it can not be a gift or present from anyone.
- The item (or any of its components) cannot be put up for sale during the contest period.
- Only one "Find" per owner can be in a "Find of the Month" contest.

A Nomination Should Include:

1) where and/or how the item was found.
2) the price & shipping cost.
3) the forum link to the topic discussing the find.
4) the eBay link if won there.
5) and other information of importance about the find.
6) one or two pictures of the item.

Ideally your item would be posted in its own thread elsewhere on the forum such as "Auction Talk", "Flea Market/Yard Sale Finds" or "Collectors Corner" Board. Then you or anyone else can nominate your "Find" to the Current "Find of the Month" thread by posting at least one picture and other details including the price paid, any shipping costs and a link to the original discussion on the forum. It is not a requirement that your find be posted elsewhere on the forum but the more details the better.

Nominations of phones listed in other forum discussion topics, by members that do not own the item but realize it is indeed a "find" worthy of being nominated as a "Find of the Month" candidate, are always welcome.

Please pick your best "Find" to submit for the month limiting your entry to one phone or one "Find" that might include limited multiple items. If you have already entered for the month and come up with something even better either submit your new find indicating that it replaces your previous entry OR you can enter your new Find in next months contest.

I would like to nominate my 1924 Elektrisk Bureau bought barn fresh for
NOK 200 / $24.66

It took a little time, but when Doug Rose posted about his dual dial phone (https://goo.gl/Z5uqF7)I started looking for what he was missing, the original wiring and components inside the phone, and I found it. I actually got it in in the mid of May, but this is the time of exams and we got a lot of circumstances like broken frig, leaking roof etc. so it had to take some time. https://goo.gl/fxFubb   and  https://goo.gl/PUy8gP

It was really Barn Fresh actually smelly!
The process has ended, cleaning, painting and treated with essenial oils has made it smelling good and not bad.

Could I please nominate this early 722 Trimphone, dated 1969.

This version is quite hard to find as it features the alpha/numerical dial which was only used on the very early versions of the 722, during the transition period of the initial 712 to 722.

Purchase price - £17.50.

Please may I nominate my soft plastic WE 501 dated 5/51 with G1 (later dated) handset.
Bought from eBay for €10 with €15 postage (shipped to UK from France).
I didn't know exactly what it was when I bought it and was just hoping it was quite early and with a Bakelite G1 handset.
It seems I've got quite a hard to find model and it's also my first soft plastic phone.
I'm getting to love it even though it's rather stinky!

My choice for Find of the Month was hard for me. I have picked up so many great pieces this month.

http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=20651.0

1958 WE Clear 500
1960’s Gladwin’s Large Lighted Bell Sign (Globe)
2 1960’s Plastic Circled Lighted Sign Covers. 1 General System Public Telephone & 1 Telephone Bell Logo
1960’s Drive-up / Walk-up Booth.
2 1967 Green NE 10 button 1500’s with a square face and round face.
1970’s Centurion Phone Stand with 1986 Yellow Pages book
1976 WE D1 Panel Payphone.
1982 NE Clear 2500 e-phone
1990’s Burger King Booth with a Millennium Payphone

My choice was difficult, but I think I will go with the…………….. (Drum roll)

The 1960’s Gladwin’s Large Lighted Bell Sign (Globe)

http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=20654.0

I found it on a Facebook page. I paid $150.00 CDN or 114.00 USD for it. I picked it up along with some other pieces.
Payphone Installer (Jim) believes that this is only one of two that he knows of and he has the other. He says that it is rare as most of the Gladwin stuff is gone.

I will nominate my Western Electric oak 240 two-boxer with TYPE 32 or 67 beveled glass door top box that I purchased locally for $60. These bpxes are found on early tandems and other "fancy" WE phones.  How it ended up on a 240 is anyone's guess. The magneto is nickel plated but the magnets been painted black.

Time to vote for the June 2018 “Find of the Month”. A couple of hours early but I am at the cabin for summer now which means little opportunity at internet access so have to do it when I can!

Vote for TWO this month and May the best Find win!

Sargeguy's WE 240 two-box TYPE 32/67 has cleaned up in the June 2018 Find of the Month! As always, it is encouraging to see old wooden phones or candle stick phones win this contest as usually the winners tend to be rare or unusual WECo 500’s.

Congrats Greg and to everyone who had “Finds” in the contest and thanks to everyone who voted.

Well that’s it for June...onwards into the Summer !
