The names below comprised the first telephone directory for San Francisco, and was the second directory issued in the United States, the first having been published 21 February 1878 in New Haven, Connecticut.

According to a San Francisco Chronicle article in 1932, 27 of these subscribers were still listed among the 245,000 in the latest directory, 12 under the same name. Two of those 12 included: Dr. J. P. Trumpour, dentist, 1503 Divisadero street, and A. F. Coffin, broker, 335 Bush street, former president of the San Francisco Mining Exchange.
