Absolutely any and all members are very welcome and strongly encouraged to take a guess in this contest. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

A suggestion was made to run a "Special Auction Contest" on several of the "Old Telephones" phones being sold by way of Morphy Auctions. Each of these special auction contests will really be nothing more than a chance for members to take a one shot guess at the winning bid, if the phone sells, and it's all just for fun.

These auctions will end at various times this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, so throw you guess into the ring. Since most of us don't have a clue as to what these will sell for, offer your best guesstimate and lets see what happens.  And, since this is a "special rules" no winner contest, the best guesser will not be included in the Hall of Fame or be counted in the Contest Standings as a win. This one is just for fun.

All I ask is that 1) guesses be at least $25 dollars apart, 2) only one guess per player (can't revise a guess) and 3) no guesses will be accepted with less than 1 hour ("yes, one hour") to go in the auction, special rules for a special contest . . .  ;)

. . . this is the phone being auctioned:

Lot # : 804 - 1898 Solid Cast Brass Potbelly
(Estimate :     5,000.00 - 7,000.00 USD  per the Morphy Auction listing)

More photos and information are available at the above link.

The seller described the phone as a "This is a Western Electric solid cast brass potbelly desk stand made for the American Bell Telephone Company. This model does not have a code number assigned to it but is listed as an 1895 cast brass desk stand in the 1936 Bell Telephone Laboratories Historical Museum documents. American Bell transmitter is marked on the back, short switch hook, OST pony receiver. Original base plate is intact. The closed loop switch hook would indicate that this was a later model, probably 1898 - 1899. Size 12" T."

Thanks to Sargeguy for the "Realized Price" of $4,500.00 for this phone.

The winner of this Special Auction Contest is Kenton K who with the 2nd guess of the contest offered a winning guess of $7,500 to get his first win and get on the ladder of the Special Auction Contest standings.

Check out the Special Auction Contest standing page to see who else has won in the 8 CRPF Special Auction Contests to date.
