New Items Dropped Off Today!
« on: October 05, 2015, 02:11:51 PM »
Here are some of the items Terry brought with him when he visited the Island. In the off-topic section, I have placed a photo of Terry and Kim when they  disembarked in Charlottetown Harbour at:

http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=15035.0

They will return on their next leg of the trip two weeks from now, and I will take Terry out to the Museum!

In the first photo, an AE43 and an AE 83, An AE1A, and a "Chrome Change Kit"

Second photo, a Nortel Jazz, and an M8004 branded Nortel, and an AE AE-186 Multi-line set with 4 lines, hold and I/c. It is similar to an AE-187, but instead of having three lines and three holds, this is suited to normal 1A2.

In the third photo, and Amphenol connector manual punch down block and tool and connectors, a number of splices for an Amphenol Picabond splice kit I have, and a very old can wrench.

All are as received and will require clean-up and buffing.

AE-43 with the sloppy green wall paint removed. How I wish people would be more careful painting their walls! I was very cautious, as I really wanted to leave it original without having the re-paint the whole phone. A little judicious use of Easy-off took the paint off in several applications without destroying the original paint on the zinc body.  It, of course, still needs buffing and a new cord.

I have updated the photo to show it now after some light buffing with Novus.

AE1A after some cleaning - no buffing yet. All the handset ears are present and accountable and in good shape - they are often broken off.

Good work Dave

Chuck

Thanks, Chuck. I hate when people are careless painting walls around phones, and I was worried that I might damage the black paint trying to remove it - it took a while, but looks great. It will need to be buffed, as the Easy off does dull the paint a bit, but it will shine up nicely.

After this, I continued on, cleaning up the AE-1A - it looks great, and will look even better with a bit of buffing, and then went on to everything else. The Jazz Plus only needed light cleaning, and the M8004, a Centrex/PBX/POTS capable phone has had its phone extension written on it in felt pen - I even managed to get that cleaned off - not a sign of the felt pen marking left.  The AE-83 only needed light cleaning and looks great!

Terry in one fell swoop filled out several blanks in the Museum AE collection - he has helped so much through the years! He is an incredible fellow. Despite the goodies he brought, the greatest thing today was being able to finally meet him in person, after knowing him for so many years. We tried to remember when we each learned about each other, but it is at least 15 years!

And, it was so nice meeting Kim. She was telling me that she and her family visited the Island over 40 years ago, RV'ing across the Island. She was saying she was looking forward so much to the tours. This was Terry's first time on the Island, and he sure looked like he was enjoying himself!

We had time to reminisced over all that had happened over the years we have known each other - it amazed me the detail he remembered!

It was a great morning, and I am looking forward to when they return in two weeks, and when I am finally going to be able to take Terry out to see the Museum. I hope that he will find some items in my excess inventory that he wants to take home with him!

Photos of the 4 AEs this morning following clean-up which I took for my web page against a white background. They are: AE-1A, AE-43 Spacesaver, AE-83 Spacesaver, and finally, the AE-186. I will be taking them over to the Museum, changing the cord on the AE-43, then placing them in the AE display.
