Expensive #2 Dial Plate
« on: February 23, 2016, 07:36:51 AM »
I have quite a few #2 dials with really nice dial plates. All have a light red color for the numbers. This dial plate is super expensive and I feel it is touched up and not original red. Your thoughts?.....Doug

Someone was making these out of resins as posted on the forum some time ago but this looks like the real thing. Touched up? Can't tell without comparing it to a real original. Can't afford to do that either.

But, some of the numbers do look like they may have been over painted by looking at the edges.

It looks real and I don't see anything wrong with the numbers.  It is remarkably well preserved and must have been kept in a darkened room and not used much.  The plate is easily worth what the seller is asking, provided there is a 51-AL with 2AB dial included in the purchase price.  Otherwise I'd say ...$85.
