Has anybody seen this beauty?  And if so, is this from a CRPF member?  I just spotted this with 2-1/2 days to go:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/332248736949

I didn't know that red versions were made--I thought just black and ivory.  The decal isn't one of the reproduction ones, and it still has the orange code stamped on the back, and the orange "Z" terminal stamp can be seen in the picture of the interior.  The codes on the back and the schematic inside the cover don't perfectly match, but they're close ("L5102 D6" on the back vs. "L5102 A6" on the schematic).  I don't know how significant that is, as unfortunately I'm not up on the AE 40/50 codes.  The only thing I've seen published here on the 'Net are Paul F.'s codes for the later AE 80/90/Starlite series.

Sure wish this one was in the CRPF Auction Contest...  if it is genuine (I don't see how it couldn't be), I can't imagine it selling for less than $700.00.

Wish I could afford it...  hope someone on here can.  Thought I'd point it out in case anyone missed it.  I hadn't seen any posts on this (but then again I haven't looked real hard).

Auction contest #262 was a red and there have been two greens as contest phones. In addition to that, there were a two greens that won FOTM with one going on to win FOTY.

Seems green is the most common on the forum so black, ivory, green brown and red for sure.

It was a 5 day auction that I missed or it would have been a contest phone, even if it started at $200. Too late now.

Thanks for the info, everyone.

I am familiar with the color options of the AE 40 desk phones--indeed, there are copies of the color brochure for them floating around on the 'Net--but I was unfamiliar with the colors in which the AE 50s were made.

Best wishes to all on here who are in the running for it.  If I had the geld, I'd be one of them, that's for sure!

Ah, might have spoken too soon. Most of the contest phones were AE 40s so maybe the colors available are different. AE_Collector would know as well as other members.

I have a blue and a red 50.  Both beautiful.  Also a black 35 in VGC.

Here is a bit more info on 40/50 color availability.

This is from the "Highlites of the AE 40/50 Code Breaking discussion" topic but as usual, there is more info that I need to add there.

http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=17454.msg180466#msg180466

Initially there were 2 or 3 of the available colors that were only available in 40's but later it seems that all colors were available for both 40's and 50's.

The seller, Jon, has an amazing collection of color AE's. He almost always has several up for sale.
I dont think he is a member here but is a long time member of the clubs.

The color choices for the 50 were basically the same as for the Type 40 desk set.
This set was made in the mid 1950s, after 1952 at least, and had its ringer changed at one point from a high-impedance decimonic 20 Hz ringer to a low-impedance 33.3 Hz ringer.

Not the first time we have seen a set originally equipped with a high impedance ringer converted to a low impedance frequency ringer. I assume this is simply due to a telco or the installer having the correct frequency ringer on his truck even though it happens to be an older low impedance version.

I thought the low-Z ringer found in this set is one of the kind that appeared in the mid-1950s, which I thought were intended as replacement in 34A3 sets.  There is another type for the 40/50 series.
