Switchboard ID?
« on: June 10, 2017, 10:47:37 AM »
This board appears to be an answering service board? The wood cubbyholes on top of the switchboard appear to be for messages? But what model is it? Thanks.

557B, which uses single ended "gutless wonder" cord circuits that have no relay equipment and cannot complete connections between jacks, only connect the attendant to an incoming call.  The cords have cord reels like a panel phone rather than pulleys with weights like other switchboards.

Note that the 557A is essentially a slightly modified 555, with double ended cord circuits which DO have relay equipment and CAN complete connections between pairs of jacks but the jacks terminate CO lines, not telephones and light when ringing is present, not when a handset is taken off hook.

Definitely and only.  A 557A can be used as a PBX by adding EXT jacks.  Not so for a 557B.  Common to have emergency phones such as in elevators terminate in a nearby answering service.  Doable with a 557A but not a B.

Answering service swbds also have a large area around the customer line jacks to write in an "answering phrase".

Seller added internal photos and dropped the price a bit.
