I bookmarked this phone, didn't bid because I figured it was going to go so high.

Even with shipping that was a steal.  I had my sights on it too...but then again I have my sights on many of them.  Sometimes, especially during the day time people are asleep at the switch and you can get a bargain.  Here's another deal that just ended.  $154 for a B1 with an E1 handset and a #2 Dial!  I have seen non-dial B1's with an E1 go that much.  The dial alone was worth $100.  Rats, I should have bid.

I'm wondering if these results are caused by inattention, badly chosen ending times, or if people are finally reacting to the fact all these old "rare" telephones seem to be rather common after all.  Any thoughts?

I think the economy has to do with much of the reason the prices are lower right now.  I know the word "rare" is overused as we have discussed.  I don't know if a B1 with an E1 and a #4 dial would be considered common.  I've been to a bunch of yard sales, garage sales, flea markets and the like this summer and I haven't stumbled onto one.  But I have seen a bunch of black model 500's, some from the 50's.  I think with the uncertainty of the economy maybe people would rather hang on to their $150 for more essential items.  Even with that torn leather base I think a year ago that phone would have brought $225 or more on eBay.  Just another thought.........

Wow that was a nice one....I bid and won one like that and it turned out to have a #4 dial!  The phone was rebuilt in August of 1945...they must have been using up old parts due to the war.  Never know what you're going to get.
