Auction 297: WE 1940s Clear 302 - Ended 11-11-17
« on: November 05, 2017, 11:50:01 AM »
New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

Listed about 12 hours ago in a 7 day auction with no reserve ( with thanks to jsowers and WEBellSystemChristian for the tips ) and starting at $9.99 is a WE late 40s Clear 302. The seller provided very good external images showing a phone's condition and pointed out defects, some hard to see in the images. Since being listed, the phone received 5 bids from 5 buyers increasing the price to $67. I'm sure it will go higher with 33 watchers (#3 most watched phone before the contest was started) so once again, the question is who best knows what this phone will sell for when the auction ends?

NOTE:  We will use a $5 gap rule between guesses to prevent crowding. As such, keep your guess at least $5 away from prior guesses for this contest. All guesses, original and a single allowed revised guess if needed, must be submitted at least 24 hours before the auction ends.

The seller listed it as a "Western Electric Clear Rose or Amber 302 Transparent Telephone" with the item condition as "Used" and " -- " and with the auction listing description saying "This is a clear Western Electric model 302 dial phone. This was a retirement gift telephone. It has an overall pink or rose cast to the thermoplastic shell. Has solid black plungers and a white base dial, with clear open center fingerwheel. It has a black F-1 handset. There is a crack on back right side cradle ear as in photos, but generally follows the edge so not noticeable. There are no stress cracks in the corners where they meed the base. A blemish on inside lower right corner. -- The component dates are: base is S-4-1946, induction coil S-II-46, can't see dial date, transmitter unit 6-49, receiver unit 6-3-49, ringer stamped S-4-1946, The gongs are a 41A steel painted black and a 41B brass. Has runner base and handset cords both in great shape; mounting cord has a brown 4-prong 283 plug. -- There are vents covered with original mesh on the bottom so the sound of the ringer can be heard. The bottom of the base has little to no wear from use and has felt covered feet. A hard to find clear 302. See all photos for more details on its condition. -- Please email questions before bidding. Something that is important to you may be missed by me so please ask if in doubt. Winner agrees to calculated USPS priority mail shipping."

There is a side discussion of this phone on the forum at this topic, a good place to talk about this phone:

(  And, by the way, if anyone is interested in taking over the Auction Contest board starting with contest 301, send me a PM.      Let's talk . . .   )

Good luck! But there could well be someone out there who wouldn’t mind looking after some of these type of routines. The Auction Contests are like working from home where you are your own boss. You can run one when the right item comes along and you have the time to do it. Definitely, if anyone thinks they would like to get involved with some of these contests or even just help out, let someone know!
