Switchboard Picture Captures New Technology Replacing Old

Notice the hanging transmitter pushed up and out of the way with the operator now using a headset.

But, I bet they sure liked them compared to the old type transmitter when they got used to them. They would always be standing, leaning etc to get to the jacks then they would have to move back to directly in front of the transmitter to speak to the subscriber. With the headsets they would be able to talk on the move!
