Free Dial testing software available
« on: November 28, 2018, 12:40:03 PM »
It is obviously not new, but I found it this week, I have tested it and find it suitable for dial testing.

What is the drawback?
1) The text on the buttons are in German so we need to make a short translation picture, but the readings are clear and understandable.

2) you need an RS232 port, (I have an adapter USB-RS232)

To the point: Here is the link:  http://uuplds.net/file/a7p53Ixq

Download the link, run the file, and it asks for the serial port, type the number of the port, and Enter (twice), Then adjust EP to at least 2 to not get resonant pulses, then just start measuring.

I have just used pin 9 and 7 and tested the pulse contacts, or complete telephone, and that works so well.

I have a USB/RS-232 adapter or two somewhere around here.  I will have to give this a try.

Here is my adapter setup, only 2 wires for measuring the pulses, not separate measuring of other contact springs.

The setup works best when I connect the USB to the PC, and not to a hub.

RS232 Pinout

NSI are the pulse contacts on a German dial
NSR is a contact shorting NSI in rest position
NSA is the contact shorting the voice circuit when the dial is out of rest position.

#1 is right, to not use #6 on this dial is right, but #7 is the common wire, so please switch #7 and #9.

This explaining of pin-out may it be easier to know how to connect to dials of different makes.

I have a Norwegian version of Win 7  (64 bit)

When I run the program I'm asked if I really want to run it, and I do.
The next popping up is to choose the right com-port. mine is 7, so I choose 7 and next OK.
If I try to measure when 1 and 7 not are shorted.
Since I have learned that I connect at least those to to the pulsing contacts.
Then I change the EP to 2 and for more stable readings.
Pessing the upper rigth button "Prufung EINSCHALTEN" Gets the right screen, and then I can dial...
